Historic significance

Besides the breath-taking landscape, Cotswolds also carry historic significance in English history. Due to its strategic position, Cotswolds were the setting for bloody battles during English Civil War in 17th century. Now in many towns in Cotswolds, there are oldest inns, castles and hotels where Charles I and Oliver Cromwell stayed during the wartime.

The connections Cotswolds have with royal family makes this area more appealing for visitors. Several members of the royal family live in Cotswolds, including Prince Charles at Highgrove House and Princess Ann at Gatcombe Park.   Cirencester Park Polo Club is in Cirencester, the ‘Capital of Cotswolds’, where Prince William and Prince Harry, have played often.

Unsurprisingly the unique landscape and history of Cotswolds provide a rich harvest with local meats, cheese and drinks of super quality appearing on the menus of fine dining pubs, old inns and restaurants across the region.
