British Rare Breeds

union-jack

As the company name speaks, our product comes from five major British rare breeds, which are listed by British Pig Association and British Rare Breed Survival Trust as protected breeds.

The pigs are kept in small traditional farms located in English countryside, and bred completely in natural conditions, free-range and organic pork.

Unlike normal commercial farm, we are in collaboration with Langford Abattoir, based at the University of Bristol Vet School, where the pigs are slaughtered, cut and stored.

What are Rare Breeds?

  • Rare breeds are traditional native breeds with over 100 years’ history and have registered pedigree at British Big Association (BPA).
  • Pedigree breeding means Traceability, which gives the buyers complete assurance about where the pigs/pork they buy from.
  • Rare breeds are the native breeds which are monitored and promoted by Rare Breed Survival Trust (RBST), an organisation dedicated to the conservation of Britain’s livestock heritage and has his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales as its Patron.
  • Pedigree breeding means Quality, a set of independent standards ensure the best quality of pigs go on to the next generations.
  • Our pork products are on the protection list of RBST.
  • Founded in 1884, BPA is an official breed society and maintains the herd books for 13 breeds, 5 of which are where our pork product comes from.
